Every Thursday at 1PM: The Social Hour Westport Didn't Know It Needed

There's a loneliness epidemic in this country that doesn't get talked about enough in small towns, because small towns are supposed to be immune to it. But the truth is, isolation happens everywhere, especially for retirees whose schedules suddenly emptied, for parents whose social world shrank to playdates and pickup lines, for anyone who moved here from somewhere else and is still finding their footing.
The Happy Hobbies & Cozy Crafts Club at the Westport Free Public Library is a small, quietly brilliant antidote to all of that.
Every Thursday | 1:00–2:00 PM | Free | All are welcome

Bring whatever you're working on: knitting, crochet, drawing, puzzles, cross-stitch, journaling, needlepoint. Or just come and see what others are doing. There's no instructor, no curriculum, no pressure. Just a room of people choosing to spend an hour being creative together.
In my work as a business systems leader, I spend a lot of time thinking about what makes communities and organizations function well. The answer almost always involves some version of the same thing: people who show up for each other, regularly, in low-stakes ways. That's exactly what this is.
For retirees, this is a standing weekly anchor: something to look forward to, a room of familiar faces, an hour that belongs to you. For younger parents or work-from-home folks who find the days blurring together, it's a reason to step away from the desk and remember there's a town out there.
You don't need to be an expert crafter. You don't need to bring anything. You just need to be in Westport on a Thursday afternoon.
Every Thursday | 1:00–2:00 PM
Westport Free Public Library | 408 Old County Road | 508-636-1100
Drop in. See what's happening. You might be surprised how good one hour of creative community feels.
