It's a day to honor libraries, librarians, bookworms and library lovers in your life! Celebrate the magic of bound adventures, where every book is a portal to new worlds, knowledge and unchartered journeys.
Did You Know?
The 1st library was formed in Babylonia in the 3rd millennium BCE.
The largest ancient library, the Library of Alexandria, was the first library open to the public in 323 BCE.
In the middle ages, private libraries were formed by kings; Vatican City introduced its' library.
In the 18th century, modern libraries were formed after being separated from the palaces they were part of.
To celebrate Library Lovers' Day, head over to Westport Library to express your gratitude to the amazing staff who are always welcoming and helpful. The Library and its team are vital to the Westport community, offering resources, services, and programs free of charge—providing everyone access to information and a hub for community engagement. The Westport Library hosts three book clubs, offers weekly meeting spaces for local groups, runs weekly children's programs, and features special programs for both adults and children sponsored by FOWL throughout the year. Additionally, it showcases art and collections by local residents.
