Someone You Love Can't Make It to the Library. We'll Come to Them.

There's a particular kind of loneliness that comes with not being able to leave the house easily. For older adults in Westport who've lived here for decades, who remember when Old County Road was quieter, who watched the town grow and change, losing easy access to a place like the library is a real loss. Books and stories aren't just entertainment. They're company. They're stimulation. They're a thread to the world outside.
The Westport Free Public Library has a solution for this, and it's one of the most human things this institution does.

The Homebound Delivery Service
If you know a Westport resident who is unable to visit the library due to age, illness, mobility challenges, or any other reason, a library volunteer will deliver books (including large print), CD audiobooks, and DVDs directly to their home.
No online ordering required. No complicated process. Just a phone call to the library at 508-636-1100, and a volunteer handles the rest.
I want to speak directly to two groups of people right now.
To adult children and caregivers: If you have a parent or elderly neighbor in Westport who is homebound, please call the library and ask about this service. It's free, it's warm, and it's one more way to keep the people we love connected to the world. You don't have to be the one driving across town with books in the backseat. There are volunteers in this community who are honored to do it.
To neighbors and community members: Do you know someone on your street, in your neighborhood, or in your faith community who fits this description? Please share this post with them or on their behalf. One share might be the link between an isolated neighbor and a delivery of books that brightens their week.
This service exists because our Library staff believe that access shouldn't be limited by circumstance. In a town like Westport, where we genuinely know our neighbors, this feels like a natural extension of who we are.
The Library comes to you.
Call 508-636-1100 to request Homebound Delivery Service for yourself or someone you know.
