November 11 is Veterans Day when the country honors all those brave men and women who have served selflessly to protect and defend our country.
During the month of November please stop in to see Ed Micale's exhibit of Military aircraft and naval vessels from the Pacific Theatre during WW II.
WW I, known as "the Great War", officially ended on June 28, 1919 when the treaty of Versailles was signed at the Palace of Versailles in France. However, fighting had ceased seven months earlier, when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
Veterans Day continues to be observed on November 11 regardless of what day of the week it falls on, thus preserving the historical significance of the date. It also helps focus attention on the purpose of Veterans Day: to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
